Jason Newsom, MA
Coach Newsom is a Lubbock, Texas native who brings a deep passion for athlete development and a proven track record of success at every level. A former college football player at Eastern New Mexico University, he has built his career on developing athletes both on and off the field.
He began his coaching career as a strength coach at Morehead State University, where he worked with multiple sports and helped guide 38 athletes to All-Conference honors, while contributing to three conference championships and a national championship across programs.
Coach Newsom went on to assist with the football sports performance department at Stanford University during a season that culminated in a Fiesta Bowl appearance. During his time there, 15 players were eventually selected in the NFL Draft. He also gained valuable experience with the Baylor University football performance staff, contributing to a team that went on to win the Holiday Bowl, with 11 players from that program advancing to the NFL.
Transitioning to an on-field role, Coach Newsom served as Special Teams Coordinator and Director of Strength & Conditioning at East Coast Prep, where he was later promoted to Athletic Director. Over five seasons, he helped build the program into one of the top post-graduate programs in the country. During his tenure, the team never recorded a losing season and more than 150 student-athletes earned college scholarships, with four advancing to professional football.
Now, Coach Newsom is focused on building Christian Community College into a premier program, committed to developing disciplined, high-performing athletes ready to compete at the next level.
Charles Planks Jr.
Born in Lubbock in 1980, Charles Planks Jr. developed a lifelong passion for athletics, leadership, and youth development. He graduated from Monterey High School in 1998 before continuing his education at Angelo State University, where he attended through 2000.
Committed to furthering his professional growth in athletics and coaching. Charles has served as a dedicated coach for Trinity programs, coached youth athletes, and worked as a personal trainer.
His work reflects a deep passion for football, mentorship, and helping individuals build confidence, discipline, and strength both on and off the field. He is known for his commitment to developing young athletes and promoting healthy, active lifestyles in his community.
